NIST's “Learning Sanctuary” Institute (Cohort 4)
The Inner Landscape of Inclusive Excellence
and Equity in Teaching & Learning (INFINITE):
STEM Education for Healing and Transformation
We are living in a time of intersecting crises, from climate disaster and imminence of war to poverty and continued racial injustice; from mental health challenges and health disparity to a rise in fascism and an ongoing pandemic – all of which necessarily impact how we and our students show up, engage, and learn.
How can we cultivate within our courses radically inclusive and healing learning sanctuaries where we can begin, with our students, to co-create equitable and sustainable conditions for learning, growth, liberation and transformation?
We invite you to join the fourth cohort of the HHMI-funded NIST INFINITE where we draw on the work of Paulo Freire, bell hooks, Pumla Gobodo-Madikizela, Laura Rendon and others to engage in both contemplative and critical practices and discuss topics related to inclusion, equity, justice, and the humanity of STEM education and practices.
Our interactive four-session institute will be facilitated by Dr. Mays Imad and will include both theory and practice to help us reimagine and begin to transform our teaching and student learning. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact Mays Imad at mimad@conncoll.edu.
Cohort 4 will meet from 6 pm until 7:30 pm Eastern on the following dates. All four meetings are required. If you're able to make this cohort, please check the dates below to acknowledge that you will be able to and intend to join us on all four dates:
