The Director for Academic Success will work closely with the dean of the College of Science and Engineering to create and foster a culture of success. To encourage academic success, this position will address retention issues for students. Key Responsibilities
• Use a data-driven approaches to identify and remediate barriers to learning and persistence with an eye towards implementation, assessment and publication of results in the peer-reviewed literature. • Work with College and department leadership and faculty to develop and evaluate strategic initiatives that focus on increasing student retention. • Participate in and support accreditation efforts for college programs, focusing on objectives that relate to student retention and success. • Participate in and support Complete College America initiatives, which may include committee service. • Be familiar with resources that assist with academic success, such as tutoring, study labs, counseling, academic skills courses and ADA support, and refer individuals to those resources, as appropriate. • Serve as an advocate for students to assist them in addressing barriers to success. • Partner with university units to coordinate retention activities across the university. • Train and guide college faculty and staff who assist with retention efforts. • Develop and support a mentoring program for students to increase retention and to support academic and career success. • Participate in committees, task forces or working groups related to retention. • Examine and, when appropriate, implement learning communities across the College. • Maintain current knowledge of graduation requirements, transfer information, financial aid, the Career Center, tutoring and resource labs, counseling, testing and other resources to support academic success. • Identify K-12 partner schools and develop relationships to create and cultivate student success pipelines in the STEM disciplines. • Synchronize departmental advising activities within CoSE to university-wide advising efforts. • Ensure that advising forms and degree maps for college programs are updated and current to promote successful degree completion. • Support efforts to assist new students with their transition to the university.
• Master’s degree in science/engineering, education, communications, psychology or related field. • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication. • Strong analytical ability. Preferred Qualifications
• Ph.D. or Ed.D. in science/engineering, education, psychology or related field. • Experience gained by participating in activities and initiatives that promote academic success in higher education, such as advising or student retention efforts.
