The Hill School is a leading boarding/day school for grades 9-12 and postgraduates renowned for infusing highly impactful authentic learning experiences into an expansive liberal arts curriculum which enables our students to orchestrate positive change throughout their lives. With construction of our new state-of-the-art STEM facility scheduled to conclude in June 2020, The Hill seeks a Dean of the Shirley Quadrivium Center. Quadrivium, Latin for “the place where four roads meet,” is the name of The Hill’s unique STEM program. The Dean will serve on the Academic Council and work closely with the Associate Headmaster and the relevant department chairs and program directors to shape the Quadrivium Curriculum and oversee the new facility. The Dean is responsible for academic planning, pedagogy, retention and recruitment of faculty, professional development and evaluation, scheduling guest speakers and scholars, budget development, and allocation of resources. We seek a visionary, national thought leader in STEM who can effectively motivate a large team of teachers and support staff to continually enhance teaching programs toward fulfilling The Hill School’s mission of preparing students for college, careers, and life.

• Candidates must possess at least five years of department chair or other academic leadership experience in a STEM field. • An advanced degree is required. Extensive experience in a college, university, or boarding school is also preferred to ensure a thorough understanding of the unique relationships formed within a residential setting. • We require an academic leader with extraordinarily high expectations of her/himself and the ability to inspire and motivate others. • Other skills and qualities necessary for this position include expert verbal and written communication skills; masterful teaching and classroom management capabilities; the ability to assess talent and train and mentor both early- and late-career teaching professionals; a genuine willingness to work closely with students and colleagues; a high energy level; and, of course, a good sense of humor.
