Connecticut College


The Department of Biology at Connecticut College seeks applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor for the 2020-2021 academic year. The position is for one year and may be renewable for each of two additional years, depending on review. This faculty line is scheduled to become a tenure track position, at which time another search will be conducted. The successful candidate will have demonstrated teaching expertise in undergraduate biology and research experience in the area of undergraduate biology education, with an emphasis on equity pedagogy. A Ph.D is required by July 2020. The Biology Department is committed to active scholarship, equity pedagogy, and innovative teaching practices. This past year, the Department launched a new foundational curriculum centered on inquiry and skill development. The successful candidate will teach courses in this curriculum, a 200-level Human Physiology course, and a course that addresses social difference and power in science. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in pedagogy programming through our Center for Teaching and Learning. The teaching load for full-time visitors is 3 courses in one semester, 2 in the other; each laboratory section counts as a course. Opportunities for collaborative research with faculty and undergraduate students will be available. We value the contributions visitors bring to our community and encourage their active engagement with their departments and all aspects of campus life during the course of their appointment. Visiting faculty are appointed as participating members of the faculty, but they may become voting members by request. Their presence is welcome at all faculty meetings.
