DESCRIPTION
Dr. Jacob Wainman, PHD is actively recruiting Chemistry M.S. students to join my newly formed research group in the Chemistry and Biochemistry Department at the University of Minnesota Duluth. His group focuses on understanding implementation of evidence-based teaching practices, primarily in chemistry laboratory settings.
Students in the Chemistry M.S. program are not required to complete a basic science research requirement "at the bench". That said, he has had a student be co-advised by an analytical chemist, essentially incorporating both traditional basic science and chemistry education into her final thesis.
The Chemistry M.S. program at the University of Minnesota Duluth is fully funded for 2 years by TA or RA, and is a great way for students uncertain about committing to a PhD program to find out if graduate school is right for them. We also offer a Community College Teaching Certificate (little C certificate, not a full K12 teaching license) that has made our graduates particularly attractive for hire at Minnesota Community Colleges. In addition, his group routinely attends SABER, as it's just a few hours away to reach the Twin Cities campus.
It also worth noting that Duluth, Minnesota is a wonderful city on the shores of Lake Superior. Outdoor activities thrive in the city, including all winter long.
