San Francisco State University, Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry offers an exciting opportunity for a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor position in chemistry education beginning August 2020. We seek a discipline-based education research colleague whose research focus and scholarly interest are in chemistry education and whose teaching interests are primarily in the area of general chemistry. Responsibilities: The position requires undergraduate teaching primarily in general chemistry, including lecture and laboratory courses and in the area of the candidate’s specialty. Additional responsibilities include developing an active research program in one’s area of specialty in which undergraduate and graduate (master’s) students substantively participate, mentoring and advising graduate and undergraduate students, and contributing to committee and service assignments. Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemistry Education or closely related field
Post-doctoral or equivalent research experience
Demonstrated potential to establish an externally-funded research program in chemistry education
Record of teaching contributions in the areas of general chemistry and/or the area of specialty
Active record of scholarship related to STEM education
Demonstrated ability to incorporate inclusion, diversity, and educational equity in teaching and scholarship
Experience of teaching and working closely with students from historically underrepresented communities
Demonstrated commitment to ethics, excellence, and innovation in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate (master’s) levels as appropriate
Strong commitment to working cooperatively with colleagues on curricular development and programs
Record of contributing to collegial, supportive and collaborative work environments
