Position Description The Department of Biology at the University of Washington (UW) Seattle campus invites applications for one full-time (9-month) lecturer position in Biology, commencing no earlier than March 16, 2020. The initial appointment is for three years, with the possibility of renewal. This position is non-tenure eligible. All UW faculty members engage in teaching and service. The successful candidate will be expected to teach Introductory Evolutionary Biology and Ecology (Biology 180) and other higher-level undergraduate courses, as appropriate. Candidates are encouraged to review the UW biology course catalog (http://www.washington.edu/students/crscat/biology.html) and identify additional courses they would be qualified to teach. The UW Department of Biology is a nationwide leader in biology education research, integrated with a broad biological research program stretching from molecules to ecosystems. Qualifications Applicants must have a Ph.D. (or equivalent) in ecology or evolutionary biology and at least one year of full-time college teaching or one year of postdoctoral experience. Candidates should have strong disciplinary content knowledge, a philosophy of continuous improvement, and a demonstrated awareness of best-practices in teaching including expertise in student-centered instructional methods to teach large (>750 students) undergraduate courses. Candidates should demonstrate their fit for teaching students from diverse backgrounds.
