The Center for Research on Learning and Teaching in Engineering (CRLT-Engin) at the University of Michigan (U-M) is expanding and we are seeking applications for an Instructional Consultant position with an emphasis on engineering faculty development. The College of Engineering at U-M is in the process of implementing a major strategic plan that includes a pillar devoted to promoting excellence in engineering education. This plan includes a focus on diversity, equity and inclusion at all levels; a renewed commitment to experiential learning; and a deepening of resources to support lecturers or teaching focused faculty. The Center for Research on Learning and Teaching in Engineering (CRLT-Engin) is a key player in enacting this vision; hence, the College is expanding its capacity and staffing.
The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing programs and activities for the improvement of engineering faculty. This includes the following:
Leading the orientation and monthly lunch series for new engineering faculty with opportunities to develop new programming to support lecturers in the College of Engineering
Designing and implementing programs and workshops for instructional improvement for College of Engineering more broadly, with a particular emphasis on diversity issues and inclusive teaching
Consulting with graduate student instructors and faculty
Conducting midterm student feedback sessions.
Applicants with extensive experience will be considered for an Assistant Director title. Candidates from backgrounds historically underrepresented in faculty development are encouraged to apply.

Job requirements: Completed Ph.D. in engineering, engineering education or related STEM field (e.g., physical sciences, mathematics) by the start date; university or college teaching experience in engineering or related STEM field; faculty and/or graduate student instructor/teaching assistant development experience; experience with program planning and administration; commitment to contemporary issues of diversity, inequalities, access, and/or differential success in STEM contexts; strong attention to detail; outstanding oral and written communication skills; and ability to work effectively with graduate student instructors, faculty, and academic administrators.
Desired qualifications: Experience with assessment or educational research, experience promoting the effective use of instructional technology in the classroom, familiarity with scholarship on faculty development, familiarity with University of Michigan policies and procedures.
