The Mallinson Institute for Science Education (MISE), an interdisciplinary science education and research unit within the College of Arts and Sciences at WMU, invites applicants for a tenure track position in Health Sciences Education Research beginning in August 2019. Most faculty members in MISE hold joint appointments with science departments. A joint appointment in the Department of Biological Sciences or Chemistry will accompany this position (specific department TBD based on the applicant’s background).

This is one of seven new positions in the WMU College of Arts and Sciences that are part of a faculty cluster established to build on our existing excellence in public health research and community engagement to create innovative public health solutions (https://www.wmich.edu/arts-sciences/public-health-cluster-hire). As articulated in the College of Arts and Sciences strategic plan, we are committed to fostering a community of diverse, inclusive, equitable and globally-engaged scholars, learners and leaders.
The successful candidate is expected to establish a research agenda and externally-funded research program in science education, with a focus on student learning and success in the health sciences (e.g., student knowledge development and progression from pre-professional health science programs to degree completion, student understanding of key concepts). Professional responsibilities also include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses that may include, but are not limited to: Biology or Chemistry undergraduate feeder courses for students in pre-professional programs in the WMU College of Health and Human Services as well as Graduate Seminars and Research Methods in Science Education for MISE graduate students.
